Man Assaulted Woman,North Liberty Police; Asked To Be Shot
NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa -- A North Liberty man is accused of attacking a woman and police Saturday night.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday, North Liberty police officers were called to a Mehaffey Bridge Road residence for a report of a man involved in a fight with a woman. Police said responding officers heard the sound of objects hitting walls and glass being broken inside the residence. Police said the suspect, 41-year-old Darrell L. Abbott, broke out a glass window with a metal rod.
Police learned that the woman had been hit in the chest with an unknown object Abbott had thrown at her. She suffered a small cut to her chest, police said.
Abbott tried to hit one of the officers with the metal rod, then screamed at the officer to shoot him, police said. Officers responded by deploying a Taser and stunning Abbott twice. Abbott continued to resist the officers, police said.
He was eventually subdued and taken to the Johnson County Jail, where he faces charges of assault with intent to injury police officers, domestic assault and interference with official acts.
