Man Arrested Following Stabbing in Waterloo

WATERLOO, Iowa - One man has been arrested following a stabbing in Waterloo. At about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report of an injured person in the 1100 block of Sycamore Street.

Officers found that the victim, Eddie Barnes, age 43, of Waterloo, had been stabbed in the head, neck and back. Investigators spoke with witnesses and learned that Barnes had been in a fight earlier in the evening with a subject and that subject later returned with a knife and stabbed Barnes.

The subject left the scene, but was arrested a short time later on Lafayette Street. The knife used in the stabbing was also recovered. Herald Daniel Smith, 50, of Waterloo, was arrested and charged with Willful Injury and Going Armed with intent.

Barnes is currently being treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
