Judge Says He'll Move Murder Trial from Ottumwa
OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) — The retrial of an Iowa man charged with killing his pregnant wife won't be held in Ottumwa because of extensive media coverage.
The Ottumwa Courier reported Judge Daniel Wilson said at a Monday hearing he'd file a ruling changing the location of Seth Techel's retrial.
Techel is charged with murder and nonconsensual termination of a human pregnancy in connection with the death of his wife, Lisa Techel. She was shot in May at their home near Agency.
Last month, an Ottumwa jury failed to reach a decision, and the judge declared a mistrial. Prosecutors are seeking a new trial.
Prosecution and defense lawyers supported moving the next trial because of extensive coverage of the case.
Wilson will seek input from lawyers and court administration before deciding the new location.
