WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) A former Waterloo teacher accused of engaging in inappropriate behavior with a student is appealing his recent conviction in the case.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports 55-year-old Larry Twigg posted a $10,000 appeal bond Thursday. It was a day before a deadline to surrender to authorities and begin a two-year sentence.
A Black Hawk County jury convicted Twigg in May of five misdemeanor counts of lascivious conduct with a minor.
Prosecutors say Twigg coerced a 17-year-old student to do several bizarre acts in 2009 and 2010 to make up for missed class assignments. Twigg is also awaiting trial for charges of sexual exploitation by a school employee in connection with encounters with another student.
