IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa City police are continuing to investigate three recent robberies. In each case the attackers didn’t use a weapon, rather intimidation techniques.

“We are still investigating at this time,” said Sgt. Vicki Lalla of the Iowa City Police Department. “I wouldn’t say this is common.”

The robbery reports have all been near the University of Iowa campus. The first report was back on October 28 near Kinnick Stadium, another over Halloween weekend in downtown and a third this weekend at Dubuque and Bloomington Streets.

In each case multiple robbers appear to target individuals walking alone at night. Police define the robberies as “strong-armed,” and aren’t sure whether or not they’re related.

University of Iowa police recommend students always walk in groups after dark and keep a cell phone handy to call police if they suspect trouble.
