IOWA CITY, Iowa - An Iowa City man was arrested last month in connection with multiple charges for assaulting another man while engaging in sexual relations with him.

According to criminal complaints, Andrew J. Staudt, 27, of 3 Expo Dr., left a bar with a man and went back to his residence on Sunset Street on Oct. 17.

Police said the two men were engaged in sexual relations when Staudt began assaulting the other man. Staudt choked the other man and told him that he was going to kill him, according to a police report.

The alleged victim was eventually able to wrestle Staudt out of the apartment, but Staudt proceeded to kick the man’s door down, breaking the trim, according to a police report. Police said Staudt then passed out on a couch until friends of the alleged victim were able to push Staudt out of the apartment.

Police said Staudt continued to try to enter the residence until officers arrived on the scene.

Staudt was arrested Tuesday and charged with assault causing bodily injury, fourth-degree criminal mischief and trespassing. All charges are serious misdemeanors, which carry a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a $1,500 fine.
