Indictment Alleges Guard Staffer Embezzled Funds
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa National Guard field technician has been indicted on federal fraud charges that allege he funneled nearly $60,000 into his own account.
The Des Moines Register reports that David William Palmer is charged with one count of embezzling public money and 15 counts of wire fraud.
The charges were outlined in a federal grand jury indictment unsealed Tuesday in Des Moines.
A phone listing for Palmer couldn't be located.
Court documents allege Palmer manipulated a U.S. Defense Department computerized pay system to create $59,267 in overpayments, which were then deposited into his personal bank account.
Palmer is set to be arraigned on Aug. 14.
