Indianola Attorney Arrested in Overbillings Case
INDIANOLA, Iowa (AP) — A former attorney for the city of Indianola has been arrested on charges of filing nearly $91,000 in overbillings during a six-year period.
John Hoyman was booked Wednesday and fingerprinted at the Warren County Jail. He was then released on personal recognizance.
Hoyman is accused of billing the city for prosecution cases based on fictitious names. He admitted during a state audit investigation released this month that he used fake names from the phone book to beef up his invoices.
Hoyman faces felony counts of theft, fraud and felonious misconduct in office. Messages left with Hoyman's law office, city officials and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation were not immediately returned Wednesday.
