BLAKESBURG, Iowa (AP) - The Wapello County Sheriff's Office is investigating the explosion of small bomb in a library book drop in the small southeast Iowa community of Blakesburg.

The Ottumwa Courier reports librarian Rebecca Brittain says the "homemade bomb" was found in the Blakesburg Public Library's book drop on Wednesday morning.

Wapello County Chief Deputy Don Phillips says the explosion was caused by a chemical reaction inside a Gatorade bottle.

No one was hurt, but Phillips says the explosion could have caused acid burns to a passerby.

The sheriff's office and Iowa State Fire Marshal's Office asks that anyone with information about the matter call authorities.

The explosion caused less than $100 damage to the drop box and books inside.
