Hawkeye Running Back Charged with OWI, Suspended
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — University of Iowa football player Barkley Hill has been suspended after he was charged this weekend with operating while intoxicated.
Hill, a freshman running back, was arrested Saturday in Black Hawk County near his hometown of Denver, Iowa.
Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz says in a statement that Hill will face a minimum one-game suspension, as well as other consequences within the program.
Iowa Athletics Director Gary Barta says he was "extremely disappointed" to learn about Hill's arrest. Barta says Hill will go through the university's student-athlete code of conduct process, and will be subject to university sanctions as officials gather information.
Hill attended Cedar Falls High School. He redshirted during the 2012 season.
The Hawkeyes finished their season Friday with a 4-8 record, after losing to Nebraska.
