Fort Madison Animal Shelter Finds Decapitated Dog
FORT MADISON, Iowa (AP) — An animal shelter in Fort Madison says it found the body of one of its shelter dogs decapitated and has asked the Lee County sheriff to investigate.
The Hawk Eye in Burlington reports that PAW Animal Shelter Manager Sandy Beasley Brown says one of the shelter's dogs was discovered missing early this week. On Thursday morning an employee walking another dog found the dead animal. It's unclear whether the dog jumped a fence and escaped or was stolen and killed.
Brown says the staff and board of the shelter are saddened that someone would treat an animal with such cruelty. She posted on the shelter's Facebook page that they are angry and determined to find those responsible.
Sheriff Jim Sholl did not immediately return a call Friday.
