Federal Officials Arrest Eastern Iowa Gun Store Owner After Sting
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Federal investigators have arrested an eastern Iowa gun store owner who is charged with illegally possessing a machine gun.
Larry Lee Brauer, owner of Lone Wolf Outdoor Supplies in Calamus, made a brief appearance Wednesday in federal court in Davenport following his arrest. He is in federal custody until a detention hearing Friday.
A criminal complaint signed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms charges Brauer with knowingly possessing a fully automatic machine gun that was not registered to him. The charge is the result of a sting operation in which a longtime customer worked with ATF to purchase the weapon from Brauer last month.
ATF arranged the sting after the customer complained that Brauer was breaking numerous rules governing firearms sales.
Brauer's attorney didn't immediately return a message.
