WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — The Waterloo Police Department captured an escapee from the West Union Correctional Facility early Sunday morning.

According to a press release, officers attempted to pull over a silver pickup on Highway 218 at Mitchell Avenue at 12:48 a.m. Sunday after the truck made an illegal turn and nearly hit a squad car. Police said the driver didn't stop and engaged in a short pursuit that ended in a construction site.

Police said the driver tried to flee on foot, but was quickly caught. He was identified as 35-year-old Bryan A. Keller, who had escaped from the West Union Correctional Facility. Police learned the pickup Keller was driving was stolen from a West Union business.

Keller faces charged from the Iowa Department of Corrections relating to his escape, as well as charges of eluding, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and second-degree theft.
