Driver Charged in Crash That Kills Infant
MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) — A Marshalltown man has been arrested in a crash that killed two passengers in Marshalltown.
Twenty-two-year-old Armando Chavarria was charged Tuesday with two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of serious injury by vehicle. Police say he was driving drunk when the SUV left the road and rolled into a creek early on Nov. 1.
The crash sent Chavarria and his five passengers to the hospital.
Twenty-one-year-old Chendo Quezada and four-month-old Dylan Quiros died of their injuries. A 17-year-old girl remains hospitalized while three others were released.
Online court records show the public defender's office in Marshall County has been appointed to his case, but no attorney is named. Chavarria is being held in the Marshall County jail on $100,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing is Nov. 16.
