Des Moines Officer Hit by SUV Improving
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A Des Moines police officer struck by a sport utility vehicle nearly a week ago has been moved out of a hospital intensive care unit.
The Des Moines Register reports that Officer Candice Lassiter remains hospitalized, but is improving. Officials declined to release further information about her condition.
The 33-year-old officer was standing in a driveway last Sunday when a passing driver lost control of his SUV on an icy hill and slid into her. The driver was cited for failing to maintain control.
She was initially discharged from the intensive care unit Monday afternoon, but returned and spent several days there after doctors expressed concerns.
