County's Insurer Settles Lawsuit Filed By Former Iowa Jailer

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — Cerro Gordo County's insurer has settled a lawsuit filed by a former jailer.

The Mason City Globe Gazette says County Administrative Officer Tom Drzycimski told the county supervisors on Tuesday about the settlement with Tammy Simmers. They agreed to a release of all claims with Simmers. Details about the settlement were not disclosed.

Simmers had filed a federal lawsuit against the county and various officials in November 2012. Simmers' allegations included claims of a hostile work environment, gender discrimination and retaliation, and wrongful termination.

She was hired as a full-time jailer in 2005. Her lawsuit says she was fired in August 2011 for statements she made to a co-worker about how she was treated and for comments she made on her Facebook page about the jail administrator.
