IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Two Cedar Rapids brothers are accused of participating in separate robberies in Iowa City earlier this summer.

One, a 19-year-old, is accused of taking part in robbing a pizza delivery driver in June. The second, a 16-year-old, is accused of robbing a cab driver at gunpoint in August.

According to Iowa City police, one of four suspects in the robbery called Domino's Pizza around 10 p.m. June 29 and had a pizza delivered to 1036 Jensen Street on the west side of Iowa City. A suspect called again to check on the time of arrival, police said.

Police said when the driver arrived on Jensen Street, two suspects approached the car and hit it with a baseball bat. Two suspects then took the driver's money bag and the pizza. All four suspects divided the money and the pizza, police said.

The driver of the car saw all four suspects during the robbery, police said.

Police said one of the phone numbers used in the call was registered to 19-year-old David Abrams, Jr. Another suspect told investigators Abrams participated in the robbery and identified him in a photo.

Abrams has been arrested and faces one count of first-degree robbery, aiding and abetting. The class B felony carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

Sgt. Vicki Lalla said she is not certain that additional charges have been filed in connection with the pizza robbery, but on Tuesday police arrested Abrams' brother - 16-year-old Darius E. Davidson - and charged him with first-degree robbery. Davidson is one of the suspects in the Aug. 2 robbery of a cab driver on Petsel Place, which is also on the west side of Iowa City. The victim, a Five Stars Cab driver, told police he was robbed at gunpoint by two men, both of whom had guns.

Police said as the two men were fleeing from the robbery, one of them fired their gun in the air. Both suspects admitted to participating in the robbery, though Davidson - who got $70 in the robbery - is the only suspect who has been charged in that case.

In addition to that arrest, police in August charged a 15-year-old, Willie Dean of Iowa City, with the robbery of a cab driver. That robbery occurred at 1034 Jensen St.

"I think they're probably all intertwined in some way, but I'm not 100 percent (certain)," Lalla said.

Investigation into these and a series of cab driver robberies on the west side of Iowa City is ongoing, said Iowa City Police Lt. Doug Hart. Hart said he was unable to see how Dean, Abrams and Davidson might be involved in other robberies.

"We have quite a bit of work left to do on the investigation," he said. "I think when we get to the point where we have concluded what we can do, we'll be able to shed a lot better light on it."

Abrams remains in custody in the Johnson County Jail. Davidson is in custody at the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center.
