Cedar Rapids Police Find Heroin on Chicago Man

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Cedar Rapids police found a golf ball sized quantity of heroin on a Chicago man earlier this month.
According to Linn County criminal complaints, officers were called to the Howard Johnson, 616 33rd Ave. SW, on Dec. 22 for a report of an odor of marijuana coming from a room. Police performed a "knock and talk" at the room and spoke with the occupant, 43-year-old Gregory W. Vance. Police said Vance gave officers permission to search the room.
During the search, police said the found a golf ball sized amount of heroin and individual baggies of heroin totaling about 20 grams. They also found marijuana, drug paraphernalia, packaging materials and $2,000 cash.
Vance was arrested and faces charges of possession of heroin with intent to deliver, Iowa drug tax stamp violation, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said Vance was previously convicted of possession of cocaine in October 2009.
