CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Upon further review, two houses and a garage were struck by bullets during a shooting Tuesday afternoon in southeast Cedar Rapids.
No injuries were reported from the shooting, which took place around 2:50 p.m. in the 1500 block alley between Bever Avenue and Washington Avenue SE. Police officers collected a plastic baggie of shell casings from the alley, but left the scene without finding any damage.
Police were summoned back to the area a couple hours later when damage reports came in. Sgt. Cristy Hamblin residents reported bullet holes at 1602 Bever Ave. SE, 1606 Bever Ave. SE and 372 16th St. SE.
A woman who lives in the area said she heard about six or seven shots in succession. She said she ran outside out of concern for her niece, who had just left the house. The woman said her son saw a couple people running down the alley after he heard the shots.
A man who lives at one of the houses that was struck said "something needs to be done" about the crime in his neighborhood.
"My 15-month-old daughter was looking out of the window when the bullets were flying," said the man, who declined to be identified.
No arrests have been made in the case, and police have not released any information about possible suspects.
