13-year-old Driver Arrested After Police Chase

ANKENY, Iowa (AP) — A 13-year-old boy faces several charges connected to a car chase in Ankeny.

Police say the boy stole his grandmother's car and then refused to stop during a pursuit by Ankeny officers early on Monday morning.

Officers say that during the half-hour chase, the boy drive through a yard, hit a garage, jumped curbs, crossed medians and finally crashed into a ditch.

He got out of the car and ran but was soon captured. He and a 12-year-old boy were taken into custody.

He's been charged with theft, interference with official acts, eluding, reckless driving and criminal mischief. His passenger was charged with theft and interference with official acts.

No injuries have been reported.
