Important Note About Flood Debris Removal

CEDAR RAPIDS – The City of Cedar Rapids Solid Waste and Recycling Division has coordinated the removal of 41,538 tons of residential flood debris since the flood of 2008. This service has been provided in cooperation with the FEMA.
The Solid Waste and Recycling Division reminds all 2008 residential flood affected residents that flood debris collection will be ending this month.
FEMA funding for the collection of residential flood debris will end on November 26th. At that time, the contract for flood debris removal will end.
The contractor’s crews will make a final pass through flood affected neighborhoods starting on Wednesday, November 11th. Once the contractor has cleaned-up a street, they will not be returning.
Remember, flood debris must be segregated into the following piles:
Appliances
• Fridges, stoves, dishwashers, microwaves, washers, dryers, freezers, window and central air conditioners, water heaters, furnaces, dehumidifiers.
Household Hazardous waste
• Paints (latex and oil based), solvents, cleaning solvents, gasoline, oils, pesticides, fertilizers,
Electronics
• Computers, stereos, VCR’s, DVD players, toaster ovens.
Scrap Metal
• Pots and pans, shelves, BBQ’s, exercise equipment, patio furniture, chairs, etc.
Garbage
• Furniture, household belongings, damaged drywall, plaster, wood lathing, wood decking, playhouses, kid’s toys, etc.
