Block by Block Ready to Celebrate First Success

CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids group is ready to mark its first success in flood recovery. Next week, Block by Block will hold a ribbon cutting for its first fully fixed-up block in the flood zone.

The 1300 block of Eighth Street northwest is one of six blocks the group is working to rehab.

Members hope it's rebuilding more than bricks and mortar in the flood zone.

Marketing manager Lisa Pritchard said, "You know your neighbors, you work with your neighbors, you watch out for each other and that's what we are doing were building it block by block."

In order to get help from Block-by-Block, 60-percent of a neighborhood must agree to take part.
