Flood Property Tax Abatement Deadline Ends

By Daren Sukhram

CEDAR RAPIDS - At the close of business Thursday, the Linn County Treasurer’s Office had a total of 2,728 property tax abatement applications for flood-affected property in various stages of processing.

This number does not include applications that arrived in Thursday’s mail and have yet to be processed.

Thursday was the last day for property owners to apply for tax abatements for property that sustained damage from the June 2008 flood.

The Treasurer’s Office expects to know the full amount of property tax abatements by mid- to late-October.
