Iowa Flood Committee Seeks Public Input

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - A 12-member flood plain management committee has scheduled a series of meetings to get public input on recommendations for Iowa's watershed.

The first two meetings of the Flood Plain Management Subcommittee will be held in Mount Pleasant and West Branch on Sept. 29. Additional meetings will be held in Ankeny and Waverly on Oct. 6 and Lewis and Storm Lake on Oct. 8.

The committee is part of Iowa's Water Resources Coordinating Council within the governor's office and was created following the devastating floods of 2008.

The committee is seeking public feedback on its recommendations for managing the flood plain, including prohibiting building near a flood plain and prohibiting reconstruction of flood-damaged buildings in the same area.
