Taylor Elementary Back

By Becky Ogann

CEDAR RAPIDS - Taylor Elementary in Cedar Rapids is marking a milestone in flood recovery on Monday, as kids return to school for their first day.

The school took on three feet of water in last June's flood. The district was forced to suspend classes during repairs last year.

The kids and their parents are really excited to be back inside Taylor. They say it meant a lot to see so many families walk through these doors.

There were lots of hugs and pictures this morning as parents wanted to mark this milestone at Taylor.

Kids started coming in around 8:00 a.m. to line up for breakfast.

Carol Lint dropped off her son and daughter and say they are happy to be back.

"It's way different than it was. It's awesome to have it all back up and running. It was so hard to see it covered with water," said Carol Lint, parent.

A sign is posted outside Taylor's front door to remind everyone of last summer. While it's taken more than a year to get to this point, the kids were really happy to reunite with the classmates.
