TORRANCE, California - Auto maker Toyota has issued two voluntary safety recalls that affect more than 100,000 of its Highlander Hybrid and Lexus models.

The first recall affects the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and Lexus RX-400H vehicles. Transistors in the vehicles can suffer heat damage, causing the car to shut down while a driver is behind the wheel.

The second recall affects Lexus IS-350, IS-350C and GS-350 vehicles. Bolts used to fasten the variable valve timing control can become loose, causing the vehicle to stop while being driven.

Toyota said it will notify vehicle owners involved in the recall by first class mail.
