Slow Business Leading to Hamburger Mary's Closing
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A popular Cedar Rapids eatery will close its doors after the New Year’s Eve crowd goes home. Owner Rhonda Winistorfer says the economy and a personal decision by the owners led them to close Winistorfer says business just wasn’t steady enough.
Virgil Henley, who owns the building at 222 Glenbrook Drive Southeast, in Cedar Rapids, was selling the building to Winistorfer.
The closing didn’t come as a surprise to Henley. He said he hadn’t received payments in three months and he had been getting calls from the gas and electric companies.
“The clues are there if you know what to look for,” Henley said.
Henley said with 51 years of experience, he knows how much work it takes to successfully own your own business.
“Just like all of us, it’s damn hard to pay those bills,” Henley said.
Henley said he plans to rent rather than sell the building in the future.
