Officers Warn Against Two Dubuque County Scams

DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa - Police are warning of two over the phone scams involves people's debit cards and medical information.

A company claiming to be called National Debit calls saying the customer's bank has deactivated their ATM or debit card for security reasons. They, then, asks for account numbers and other financial information. Police warn if someone sees 909-204-7750 on his or her caller ID to not give out information.

The other scam is happening in the Dyersville area. Someone claiming be affiliated with Medicare or Medicaid says they need to update information. They ask for things like a person's social security, credit card and bank account number. In the last six months, scammers have been able to take advantage of 10 people just in Dyersville.

Officers warn Eastern Iowans never to provide personal information unless they are absolutely positive the request is legitimate. If you are unsure, give the Better Business Bureau a call at 1-800-222-1600.
