CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Tim McDougall, vice president of products for SourceMedia Group in Cedar Rapids, has been named publisher of The Gazette.

McDougall assumed his new responsibilities Wednesday. He succeeds former publisher Dave Storey, who has resigned to pursue opportunities outside the organization that will give him direct profit and loss responsibility.

Storey’s responsibilities included community and industry relations, special projects and oversight of the Opinion Page of the newspaper. Those duties will be assumed by McDougall; Chuck Peters, president and chief executive officer of SourceMedia Group, formerly known as Gazette Communications; and Elizabeth Hladky, director of community relations and a fifth generation member of one of the company’s original founding families.

Jeff Tecklenburg, opinion page editor, will report to McDougall. Lyle Muller remains editor of The Gazette.

“Dave leaves behind some big shoes — both literally and figuratively,” McDougall said. “But we have a talented editorial team that is fully prepared to lead the discussion on important issues and serve our great community in a manner befitting our responsibility as the largest media entity in Eastern Iowa.”

Storey joined The Gazette in 1992 as advertising director, and in 1998, he was promoted to vice president of advertising for Gazette Communications. He was named general manager of The Gazette in 2004 and became publisher in October 2007.

“We appreciate all that Dave has accomplished with our organization over the more than 18 years he has been with us,” Peters said. ”Dave is very well regarded in our company, community and industry. We wish him the best.

“We are looking forward to Tim McDougall and Jeff Tecklenburg working together to expand the critical opinion and commenting features throughout more of our products as we seek to better serve our customers, and build our communities with our redesigned products and services.”
