Former Cedar Rapids City Manager Jim Prosser Starts Consulting Firm

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Jim Prosser, the city of Cedar Rapids’ former city manager who left the job on April 13 via a “separation agreement” with the City Council, has created his own consulting firm.

Prosser is now president of JDP Public Partnership Group, according to Prosser’s updated professional profile on Internet site LinkedIn.

In the profile, Prosser, 58, says his six-week-old firm provides services to local and state governments in the areas of improving quality of life and controlling costs. The firm also provides support to consultants serving government agencies.

Prosser was Cedar Rapids’ first city manager and he served in that post from August 2006 through mid-April 2010.

He was paid a year’s salary at the time of his departure under the terms of his contract with the City Council.

After his departure from Cedar Rapids City Hall, Prosser was one of three finalists for an executive director’s post at the Municipal Technical Advisory Service at the University of Tennessee’s Institute for Public Service.

Prior to coming to Cedar Rapids, Prosser had been a financial consultant to local governments and a city manager in Minnesota and Illinois.
