DES MOINES (AP) - Pioneer Hi-Bred International is proposing an $154 million expansion near the seed company's main campus in Johnston that would create over 400 jobs in the next three years.

Pioneer declined to comment on the project on Monday. Documents filed with the Iowa Department of Economic Development show the company proposes selecting a developer to construct a building on 14 acres at a cost of $39 million. Pioneer would lease the facility.

The company also plans to spend $115 million on research and development.

Construction would begin later this year and be completed in 2012.

The Iowa Economic Development Board is to consider the project on Thursday.
