OTTUMWA - Hundreds of people who were laid off from John Deere's Ottumwa works will return to work.

In June, Deere started laying off nearly 500 workers as part of a normal summer shutdown at the Ottumwa plant.

Now the company's recalling all but 78 of those workers, starting at the end of November.

Before the layoffs, nearly a thousand people worked at Deere's Ottumwa plant.
