DES MOINES (AP) - An appliance manufacturer is planning to close plants in Webster City and Jefferson by spring 2011, putting 850 people out of work.

Electrolux Major Appliances North America announced Friday it would close the Webster City plant by early 2011 and a smaller facility in Jefferson by late 2010. The plants produce washing machines.

The moves come as the company consolidates its North American laundry manufacturing at a plant in Juarez, Mexico.

The company says about 75 jobs will remain at a technology center in Iowa.

Electrolux's North American operations are based in Augusta, Ga. The company's headquarters are in Stockholm.
