WATERLOO - Citing positive rebuilding and economic growth, the Board of Directors of the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance is unanimously supporting a renewal of the local option sales tax in Cedar Falls and Waterloo.
“The Alliance board believes that the local option tax has been effectively used. We are very cautious about supporting taxes that raise the cost of doing business or purchasing items in the Cedar Valley economic area, but everyone can see the results in the reconstructed streets in Waterloo and Cedar Falls," said Alliance Chair Ken Lockard.
The Alliance encourages governments at all levels to monitor operations continuously to discover ways to reduce property tax, sales and service tax, and other fees that are ostensibly taxes imposed on business and residents. The Local Option Sales Tax is viewed by the business and community leaders as an important stream of revenue for the cities.
Lockard says both Cedar Falls and Waterloo have pledges continued use of the tax to make improvements in their communities and others, such as a sports complex in Hudson.
Voters will make the decision when they hit the polls on November 3rd.
