DES MOINES (AP) - A consultant has told state regulators that the Des Moines market could support a second casino.

The Innovation Group of Littleton, Colo., estimates that a second casino in the area would generate up to $160 million a year in casino revenues.

The study assumes a second casino would be built in the southwest area of the metro to maximize its market potential against Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, which is on the east side.

The consultant's findings were presented to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission on Tuesday. The commission requested the study as it looks at the possible expansion of the state's casino industry.

Iowa currently has 17 state-regulated casinos and three American Indian casinos.
