CEDAR RAPIDS - General Motors continues to face financial hardship and it's trickling down to Iowa car dealers.
The car manufacturer posted a $6 billion loss in the first quarter.
As part of GM's plan to restructure and save the company, a local car dealership announced plans to close on Wednesday.
The news comes just two days before the Lithia Saturn dealership of Cedar Rapids will close.
This is the first dealership in the Cedar Rapids area to do so.
The Saturn brand is one of many sold at this location on Center Point Road in Hiawatha.
But as of Wednesday, Saturn vehicles will no longer be on the lot.
All other GM brands will continue to stay in business.
Robert Sacks, from Lithia Motors, says Wednesday's closure follows the direction GM announced it would take in the coming year.
"They've decided to sell the Saturn brand if they can find a buyer, but otherwise they're going to stop producing Saturn vehicles at the end of this model year. And with that stated goal in mind of theirs, we are closing a portion of our stores," he says.
GM has said that a number of potential buyers have expressed interest in the Saturn brand.
Steve Fox, the General Manager of the dealership says staff will not be impacted by the closure.
He says they will continue to sell other GM vehicles.
If you have a Saturn, it can still be serviced at the Hiawatha location.
With this news will come cheap deals on Saturn vehicles, since they'll be trying to sell their inventory.
Sackssays customers of the Saturn service department can still get their cars serviced at the other Lithia locations in Hiawatha, next to the Saturn building.
