CEDAR RAPIDS – Police consider the death of Cathy B. Stickley, 54, of Cedar Rapids on Friday night in an alley in the 1500 block of 2nd Avenue SE/3rd Avenue SE as a “homicide”.

A family member said Stickley, a taxi driver, was likely robbed while dropping off one of her cab fares. Daughter Tiffany Stickley said her mother worked for Century Cab.

Investigators have not released much information in the case, including the name of the victim.

Stickley’s death is the third violent death in that neighborhood, in Wellington Heights, in less than three years.

- September 2010: Doris Bevins, 68, is strangled, with her own clothing, inside her apartment at 1211 5th Avenue SE. Jerome Power is still awaiting trial in her death.
- July 2010: Dustin “Dusty” Davis, 35, of Commence, Ga., died after Henry Rogers, then 28, punches him in the face in front of 370 15th Street SE. Rogers is sentenced to two years in prison for involuntary manslaughter.
- August 2008: Jerry Hurt, 46, is walking down 14th Avenue SE, at 2nd Street, when Jason Blackcloud, then 36, gets off a bicycle and beats Hurt to death with a wooden post. Originally charged with first-degree murder, Blackcloud pleads guilty to voluntary manslaughter and is sentenced to 10 years in prison.
