CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Commuters were blocked from an Interstate 380 ramp for about five hours Wednesday morning after a semi-trailer truck crash in Cedar Rapids.
The semi tipped onto its side a few minutes before 6:30 a.m. on the ramp to southbound I-380 from westbound Highway 30. Police didn't reopen the ramp until shortly before noon.
Police said the Nebraska man driving the semi was not hurt. He was hauling rolls of wire that apparently shifted and caused the trailer to tip as he went around the curve, an officer at the scene said.
As a result of the ramp closure, westbound traffic was forced to continue west. The next exit for westbound traffic, at Sixth Street, was also closed due to construction, so motorists wanting to turn around had to do it at Edgewood Road.
