DUBUQUE, Iowa - We first told you about this dog, Hector, back in January.

Hector's owner Kevin Urquidez deployed to Afghanistan.

At the time, he was desperate for a family to care for his dog while he's away.

Many of you contacted KCRG TV-9, and Hector's been living with a Cedar Rapids family since then.

The support for Hector and Kevin didn't stop there. Now the foster family is thanking volunteers in Dubuque.

There is something about this dog. Hector makes people happy.
Dawn Svenson Holland said, "Hector is the most sweet affectionate dog. "

Hector makes people want to do good.

Svenson Holland said, "something told me to take a closer look at what Hector's story was." That something called Holland to action.

In January, she reached out to a stranger, Specialist Kevin Urquidez, and offered to take in his dog while he is in Afghanistan.

"Kevin has the tough job. He's on his 3rd deployment," Holland said.

For now, Hector is part of the Holland family. 70 miles away in Dubuque, employees at Hills and Dales Residential Center heard about Hector.

They too wanted to help.

Special needs clients there make dog treats and send them to Hector every month.

"We decided it would be a great way and a good opportunity for our clients to give back," said Marilyn Althoff, Hills and Dales Director.

The clients are meeting Hector for the first time. It's just what they need. But it's just what Hector needs too.

"Have a little TLC when he's undergoing so much change in his life," Holland said.
