Dubuque Marching Band Prepares for DC Chill

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Tuesday a Dubuque drum and bugle corps will march in the inaugural parade after Obama takes the oath of office. And Colts performers are getting the chills for a couple of reasons.

At first glance, the place the Dubuque Colts are practicing on could be any high school football field in Iowa. But it's not.

"Now that I'm here, it's even more exciting, because off in the distance you can see the capitol building. And we're gonna be there tomorrow," said Colt member Carol Lowman

The excitement builds and builds for the Colts, sleeping, eating and practicing at Galaudet University. They know what's in store. They'll be marching in front of millions of people.

Colts Alumna Emily Pawlak said, " Words can't even describe how huge this really is."

The Colts are used to marching in 90 degree weather. Monday night it was about 35 degrees in D.C., so that takes a little bit of getting used to.

Derik Hessing of Oskaloosa said, "I just wear layers and right now I've got about four layers of clothing on."

And speaking of clothing, the Colts' seamstresses continue to put the finishing touches on this group's most prized possession - the uniform.
