Colts Prepare for Inaugural Parade

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Dubuque Colts Drum and Bugle Corps are getting ready for the Inaugural parade. The group traveled by bus to the nation's capital over the weekend.

KCRG-TV 9's Katie Wiedemann and photojournalist Chris Blake traveled with the Colts to Washington.

This is the first time the group has all been in the same place at the same time.

That's because the current and former colt members are currently living all over the world.

Up and at 'em at 8 am, the Colts begin what's normally a pretty standard routine during their summer schedule.

After calisthenics, then being fitting for their uniforms, the group finally stepped onto this football field at Gallaudet University.

In the cold weather, dressed in several layers, the group works on formation and marching technique.

For these musicians, this is the time when they are getting really focused on the big event Tuesday.

"There is so much to be excited about. It's hard to pick just one. It's going to be the biggest crowd we've ever played for," said Derik Hessing of Oskaloosa.

There will be 119 colts marching tomorrow. The oldest is 47, the youngest is just 16.
