Woman Appeals Ruling in Lawsuit Against Mason City

By Katie Stinson

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - A woman is appealing an age and sex discrimination lawsuit that she lost against Mason City.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports 64-year-old Ann Butcher's attorney filed the appeal in connection to a Cerro Gordo County jury's verdict in July. A judge also denied Butcher's request for a new trial.

Butcher, a former city employee, claimed bias by the city after she was not hired as an administrative assistant at the police department. Butcher says she believed her not being hired was retaliation for her asking for a pay raise.

The jury says Butcher did not prove her claims.
