DUBUQUE, Iowa – Dubuque police have arrested their suspect in a stabbing on Saturday. It happened at about 12:48 p.m. near the intersection of Jackson Street and East 21st Street.
Police issued a warrant for the arrest of 24-year old Ashley Kaufmann on Monday. She was arrested on Wednesday and was in the Dubuque County Jail on Thursday morning. She is charged with Willful Injury, a class D felony.
At the time of the stabbing, a witness told KCRG.com he heard a fight taking place but did not see it happen.
"I was taking my girlfriend to work, and the girl was outside, I guess they were fighting. I didn't see the altercation or anything. They were fighting, and I guess the girl got stabbed," he said.
He said his girlfriend had given the victim, 27-year old Kayla Stoddard, a towel in order to wipe herself down in the two areas she was injured, near her waistline and her ribs.
Stoddard was taken to Finley Hospital and has been released.
