CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The first significant snowfall made its way through eastern Iowa on Wednesday.

Rain began turning to snow around 1 a.m. in northern parts of the state and started moving south. Accumulation started about an hour later.

The snow completely covered most of the main highways in eastern Iowa, and NewsLine9 callers reported seeing several semi trucks and other vehicles in the median and beside roadways. For a period of time, the Iowa State Patrol recommended that motorists not travel across much of Eastern Iowa.

Areas of Eastern Iowa picked up 4-7 inches of snow. We'll have a recap of the snow storm coming up on the KCRG-TV9 News at 5 & 6.
