Waterloo Man Arrested After Stabbing Girlfriend

WATERLOO, Iowa – A Waterloo man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Officials responded to a report of a stabbing at 2070 Locke Avenue. Upon arrival, authorities discovered Katelyn McDermott with a wound to her neck. Jacob Helm, 22, was found at 2064 Locke Avenue with self-inflicted wounds. Both were transported to local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.

Helm was released from the hospital on Wednesday and charged with willful injury causing serious injury and aggravated domestic assault. He remains in the Black Hawk County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
