Vehicle Catches Fire Along I-80 in Johnson Co., Causes Traffic Backup

JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa - Eastbound traffic on Interstate 80 through Iowa City is backed up due to a vehicle fire.

The fire happened shortly after 2 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-80 near the Herbert Hoover Highway interchange. According to our crew on the scene, a vehicle believed to be hauling hay caught on fire. A nearby ditch also caught on fire.

No one was injured in the fire, however eastbound traffic on Interstate 80 was reduced to one lane. Traffic was backed up for several miles west of the site of the fire. Normal traffic resumed at about 5 p.m.
