USPS Closes Middle Amana Post Office

By Ellen Kurt

MIDDLE AMANA, Iowa - Middle Amana residents will have to travel a little further for their mail after the post office closed for good Friday at noon.

A United States Postal Service spokesperson said the building owner was charging more than the USPS wanted to pay.

Even though the Amana Post Office is about two miles away, the closing is hurting those that relied on their mail being so close at hand.

"We have a lot of handicapped older people that live in our community. We have a blind neighbor as well who is really going to be affected by this," Joshua Turner, a Middle Amana resident, said. "It's just too bad that they haven't come to an agreement on the building."

Turner says those that live in Middle Amana enjoy not having to drive far to pick up their mail. The USPS apologized for the inconvenience.
