Thousands of Carp and Buffalo Fish Pulled from Coralville Lake

CORALVILLE LAKE, Iowa - Commercial fishermen are having quite a day at Coralville Lake. A pair of local fishermen and a semi driver are working to pull-in and load-up thousands of pounds of carp and buffalo fish before the end of the day Wednesday.

Paul Sleeper, with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, said commercial fishing in Iowa is somewhat common and heavily regulated.

"We allow them in certain areas only under (careful) contract agreement," Sleeper said.

While the final count remains in question, the average load for the specialized fish transportation semi is around 20 thousand pounds. The semi was half-full by noon on Wednesday.

The fish will be hauled live to New York, where they will be sold as food.
