Teen Charged with Vehicular Homicide in Wrong-way I-380 Crash
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Prosecutors have charged a 17-year-old boy with vehicular homicide after a head-on crash in November in Cedar Rapids.
Chase M. Goers, 17, of Cedar Rapids, was intoxicated when he drove the wrong way on Interstate 380 on Nov. 18 and his car collided with a northbound car driven by Kelley McLaren, 25, of Marion, near Wright Brothers Boulevard, according to court documents. McLaren was pronounced dead at the scene, and Goers was seriously injured.
Goers’ blood alcohol content was 0.154 percent, nearly twice the legal limit to drive. Goers faces two counts of vehicular homicide, for operating under the influence of alcohol and for driving in a reckless manner, according to a criminal complaint.
Goers was airlifted from the scene of the crash to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. No update on his medical condition has been released.
