Suspect in Holiday Lights Vandalism Apologizes
DES MOINES, Iowa - The man accused of vandalizing Jolly Holiday Lights in Des Moines is trying to make amends.
Justin Arey is charged with causing $25,000 in damage to the light display at Water Works Park.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation told KCCI that Arey stopped by on Tuesday to apologize and offered to volunteer with the organization.
On Monday, Arey responded to hundreds of Facebook comments on KCCI’s Facebook page.
“For everyone hating on me go right ahead, I deserve every bit. I know what I did was wrong and I am truly sorry. I was not intentionally targeting make a wish foundation. I had been drinking, which is no excuse. As far a the damage goes the gate was not damaged at all I only broke the chain and most of the lights I just pulled out of the ground. So where ever this 25 grand is coming from I have no clue. Don't worry people I will be prosecuted and punished. I hope and pray for your forgiveness,” said Arey.
An Indianola company has also offered to repair some of the damaged displays.
